Human history has always revealed our deep longing for someone to save us especially when the world feels uncertain or overwhelming. The people living at the time of Jesus’ birth felt this too. They ached for a new way of life marked by justice and shared wellbeing, even as they navigated corruption, violence, and an empire whose “peace” came through control and fear. Religious and political systems often worked together to benefit the powerful, leaving ordinary people struggling and unheard. As we begin Advent, we will reflect on their longing and our own. What does it mean today to hope for “good news for all people”? And where might we see signs of that good news breaking in even now?
