Last week we talked about what it means to be a member of the church, thinking of the example of the early Christians sharing Christian life together. And it is a covenant not only between us and God, but also between one another as we share burdens and risks, and celebrate joys together. Within the covenant, we walk together to fulfill God’s will by working together for the mission of UMC, “Making disciples of Jesus Christ to transform the world”. We can be a Christian without being a member but it is better to have a church family because we see the presence of Christ through each other.

We don’t do the liturgy of acceptance of new members all the time but we did it for the new members this time because I thought it is a good time for us to have a moment to promise our support and remind us of our own membership vows. So today we will talk about our membership vows.

Do you remember the five vows? We commit ourselves to participate faithfully in the churches ministries by our prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness.
