Joint service with First Presbyterian Church (2112 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire) -This service is often called the ‘Longest Night Service,’ because during this season in December, we experience the shortest day and the longest night of the year. The name also refers to the feeling that some of us may have during this time. This season could be a “long dark night of the soul,” “the winter of our discontent,” because of the memories of past experiences and the pain of present experiences. And it can overwhelm us. For some, Christmas Day can be the most difficult due to the loss of a loved one, job opportunities, or health.
The special service recognizes that joy is not the only feeling experienced during this season. We will be invited to meditate on the pain and anguish you may bring, and to offer your sorrow to the Christ child. And we will be reminded that we can find hope and comfort in knowing that you are not alone.
